Toby McTeague (Yannick Bisson) would rather be training his family's sled dogs than going to school. When his father, Tom (Winston Rekert), is hurt, Toby decides to step up and compete in the dog-sledding championship. To prove to his dad that he can, he takes the dogs out on his own one day, but one of the best dogs comes back injured. After a fight between him and his father, Toby runs away and meets his father's old friend, a shaman (George Clutesi), who strives to reunite father and son.
